ADULT SERVICES PROGRAM

The Adult Services program has several ways in which an adult can get involved.  An adult can participate in more than one service.  An individual service planning meeting is held to discuss and choose the most appropriate services for the adult.

Sheltered Employment:

Employment in one of the three sheltered workshops provides a variety of jobs such as sorting, collating, assembling and packaging.  Or if an adult chooses not to work or their health does not permit the adult to work, there are other social and recreational activities from which to choose.

Work Crews and Enclaves:

A mobile work crew provides mowing services to several businesses in the Niles and Champion area.  Adults participating on the lawn crew travel to different sites and learn to operate lawn mowing equipment.  In addition, work enclaves are available.  A work enclave is an opportunity for an adult to work at the site of a local business and complete packaging and assembly for the business.  A supervisor from the adult services program is on-site at each location.

Community Employment:

The adult services program also assists adults to work in a competitive setting in the community.  The adult services program and the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) evaluates the adults' work skills and interests, helps the adult secure employment, and provides training as needed to maintain the job.  Once employment is secured, the adult services program will provide follow-along services.  Follow-along is a monthly support provided to the adult and the employer and addresses any issues or concerns which may impact the adults' employment.
