Sissy (Florence) Keeling
Sissy’s first bachelors degree is in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University. Since these jobs are hard to come by, she went back to Youngstown State University because she found that she loves working with young children. Sissy did her student teaching at a variety of places, but the one she loved the most was here at Fairhaven School. She had no intentions of working with children with special needs, but completely fell in love with them. She had a great experience with Sally Biviano and was shown how rewarding it can be working with very young children. She says it was wonderful to see children become so compassionate and caring with each other. Sissy has been an Early Intervention Specialist for the past 17 years (birth to age 3). She says it was a difficult decision to move into the preschool from Early Intervention, but she’s adjusting and learning every day from the children she works with. Sissy finished her second bachelors degree in Early Childhood at Kendall College and completed her masters in special education, along with her Early Childhood Intervention Specialist license, at the University of Toledo. Her philosophy with working with young children is “Children learn best through hands on experiences.”
