She started her teaching career in a kindergarten classroom and then moved to Florida, where she was a preschool special needs teacher for two years. In 2009, she and her family moved home to Ohio. She continued her passion for teaching special needs children and started working at Fairhaven as an Early Intervention Specialist, which lasted five years. When a position was available, she became a Preschool Intervention Specialist. As a teacher, she continues to take additional coursework in special needs education to further her knowledge. Sissy (Florence) Keeling

Sissy’s first bachelors degree is in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University. Since these jobs are hard to come by, she went back to Youngstown State University because she found that she loves working with young children. Sissy did her student teaching at a variety of places, but the one she loved the most was here at Fairhaven School. She had no intentions of working with children with special needs, but completely fell in love with them. She had a great experience with Sally Biviano and was shown how rewarding it can be working with very young children. She says it was wonderful to see children become so compassionate and caring with each other. Sissy has been an Early Intervention Specialist for the past 17 years (birth to age 3). She says it was a difficult decision to move into the preschool from Early Intervention, but she’s adjusting and learning every day from the children she works with. Sissy finished her second bachelors degree in Early Childhood at Kendall College and completed her masters in special education, along with her Early Childhood Intervention Specialist license, at the University of Toledo. Her philosophy with working with young children is “Children learn best through hands on experiences.”
