The Fairhaven School Program is an educational option in the continuum of special education services and learning environments available to individuals with developmental disabilities in the state of Ohio.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, the federal law commonly referred to as IDEA, has established a process for determining your child’s educational needs, determining whether or not your child has a disability, and obtaining special education services, if your child’s disability requires them. The Local Educational Agency (LEA) is responsible for child identification, Evaluation Team Reports (ETR), and development and review of each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Any child placed at Fairhaven by the LEA must meet the eligibility criteria of Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for a child with a qualifying disability under special education law as defined by the State Department of Developmental Disabilities and Ohio Department of Education.
