SENIOR RETIREMENT CENTER

The Senior Center is located at The Village Center, 6000 Youngstown-Warren Road; Niles, Ohio  44446.  The Center has been open since August of 1998.  It is a community-based program for senior citizens with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities.

The Mission of the Center is to enrich the lives of our retired seniors.  The goal of the program is to protect, strengthen and empower.  The goal for fulfilling the Mission Statement is found in the following philosophies:

Protecting:

  • By providing a safe environment.

  • By serving as advocates for the seniors.

  • By providing individual service plans.

Strengthening:

  • By using an eclectic approach through programming.

Enriching:

  • By providing social interaction with other seniors and the community.

  • By offering therapeutic programs such as:

          --Art Therapy.

          --Reminiscent Therapy.

          --Aromatherapy and Sensory Experiences.

          --Resistance and Dance Activity.

  • By treating each other with respect and dignity.

  • By acting as an extended family with which to share thoughts and emotions.

  • By motivating our seniors to discover new interests.

Empowering:

  • By looking at abilities, not disabilities.

  • By assisting with personal choice and freedom of choice.

  • By providing daily supports to achieve the maximum quality of life.

The Senior Retirement Center intends to meet the needs of our community through the daily practicing of these philosophies.  Our seniors will pursue possibilities through discovery, choice and creative partnerships.
